Heat networks specialist Edward will help make biomass district heating schemes a reality

23.11.2017

Housing developments, communities, local authorities and business parks looking to incorporate district heating schemes have access to a new specialist resource: Forest Fuels’ heat network specialist Edward Lewis. Edward – who has been a respected authority on biomass wood fuel heating for more than 10 years – has this month added certification as a CIBSE-approved Heat Network Consultant. This makes Edward just one of just a handful of consultants in the UK who have expertise in both biomass wood fuel and heat networks.

Designed around the Heat Networks: Code of Practice for the UK, the CIBSE qualification will enable Edward to give high-quality guidance to customers on the design, build and operation of modern heating systems for developments with multiple buildings.

Edward, who is also a Masters-level trained M&E Engineer, will use his knowledge to help set minimum (and best practice) standards to provide greater confidence and clarity for specifiers and developers of heat networks.

Planning, project managing and trouble-shooting district heating

Edward’s broad depth of knowledge means he is a one-stop resource for any organisation that has district heating needs, whether that’s for an existing scheme or starting a new installation from scratch.  Edward can be brought in at the planning stages of a heat network; lead the specification and design process; project-manage the design and build; or trouble-shoot any potential issues that existing schemes have.

“Increasing numbers of organisations are interested in the prospect of heat networks, said Edward.  “Regardless of whether it’s for two houses, a multi-business industrial site or a large-scale housing development, heat networks are an exceptional solution as they use sustainable local supply, and can help to hugely reduce carbon emissions. I’ll be looking to help as many organisations as possible to make use of my knowledge to help them incorporate heating systems of the future.”

Edward’s qualification means that he is now on the CIBSE Certification’s Heat Networks Consultant Register.  The qualification included studying at CIBSE’s HQ in London, followed by a challenging exam.

Edward is already using his knowledge to help a number of organisations improve the efficiency of their heat networks including the National Trust’s Upton House in Warwickshire.
