Siemens wins first offshore wind project in Belgium

Siemens has entered the offshore wind market in Belgium with a first order of direct drive wind turbines for the 309 MW Rentel wind project.

Siemens will supply, install, commission and service 42 wind turbines of the large direct drive platform. A long-term service agreement for a period of 17 years will provide customized offshore service and logistics solutions for the turbines, and includes Siemens’ data-driven advanced remote diagnostics and monitoring. The customer is Rentel NV, part of the Otary partnership, a conglomerate of specialists from the Belgian renewable energy industry including investment and development companies.

The Rentel offshore wind power plant is located about 40 kilometers off the Belgian North Sea coast. The 42 Siemens wind turbines will be installed on monopole foundations in water depths ranging from 22 to 36 meters. The first turbines are expected to deliver power to the Belgian grid by mid-2018, while the entire offshore project is planned to become fully operational by the end of 2018.

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has secured a new order in India from ReNew Power, India’s largest renewable energy Independent Power Producer (IPP). The scope includes the supply of 270 units of the SG 2.1-122 wind turbines, with a total capacity of 567 MW, to two wind power facilities.

Luxembourg special fund FP Lux Investments is further expanding its wind power portfolio. With the purchase of the Ratiperä wind farm in southwestern Finland, the portfolio of the Wind Infrastructure I sub-fund has grown to 19 wind farms with 94 turbines and an installed capacity of 269 MW. Of this, a volume of 194 MW was acquired in Germany, 31 MW in France and 44 MW in Finland. The deal was advised by the internationally active M&A advisors and asset manager re:cap global investors ag, which manages the entire evaluation and acquisition process of the special fund.
