GE Energy and Eolfi Asset Management of France Sign Contracts for Projects Totaling 70 Megawatts in Clean Wind Energy

Troyes - GE (NYSE: GE) will supply 28 2.5-100 wind turbines to the French renewable energy asset management company Eolfi Asset Management for two wind park projects in France. The 2.5-100 wind turbines feature outputs of 2.5 megawatts (MW) and 100-meter rotor diameters.

Member States back the promotion of ocean energy in Europe

Ministers of the governments of Ireland, the UK, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey today [November 24] called on the European Union to give its full backing to the development of the massive ocean energy resources that exist in these regions.

The gearboxless SWT-6.0 will be offered with rotor diameters of 120 and 154 m and has been specifically designed for offshore use. The nacelle and rotor have a total weight of around 350 t. "We think that the SWT-6.0 will set the global standard for offshore wind turbines.

Acciona supplies 189 MW to NaturEner

In addition to supplying the turbines, Acciona will manage the transport and the start-up of the wind turbines, as well as the operation and maintenance of the installation for seven years. Rim Rock will have 126 wind turbines with a unit capacity of 1.5 MW and a rotor diameter of 77 metres. Delivery and installation will be carried out throughout 2012.

More wind in the north, less wind in the south of Europe

In 2011 wind speeds across Europe varied considerably from region to region. In the UK, Scandinavia, and around the Baltic Sea wind speeds trended roughly 5 to10 % above normal. Meanwhile southern Europe experienced wind speeds up to 10 % below normal except for a few isolated areas along the Mediterranean coast.

Foreign companies dominate British offshore market

Energy experts GlobalData have reported growing numbers of UK-based companies not considered for contracts to some of their most pivotal projects. Barely a quarter of this business comes from UK companies, while the likes of Siemens (Germany), Vestas (Denmark), REpower (Germany) and Nordex (Germany) dominate the UK wind turbine supply market with a share of 95.2 %, GlobalData estimates.

Fugro Seacore to install met mast

Fugro Seacore has announced that it has signed a contract relating to the design, build and installation of an offshore met mast to record and monitor site conditions on the proposed Rampion Offshore Wind Farm site in the English Channel, 13 km off the coast of Sussex, UK.
