Start of operation of Robin Rigg has begun

The Scottish offshore wind farm – the country's first – is located in the Solway Firth, on a sandbank between Galloway and Cumbria in the Irish Sea. According to E.on Climate & Renewables UK Ltd., the Vestas turbines of the type V90-3 MW with a total capacity of 180 MW will supply enough regenerative electricity to meet the demand of about 120,000 homes.

About 300 employees will work on three product lines. The first rotor blades will be produced in the third quarter 2010. LM Glasfiber maintains already two factories in the Chinese cities Urumgi (province Xinjiang) and Tianjin.

LM Glasfiber supplies Samsung

According to the agreement, LM Glasfiber will supply the South Korean newcomer to the wind turbine sector with rotor blades for a capacity of at least 1,500 MW over the next five years. Samsung wants to use them to equip its 2.5 MW turbine, which the group introduced to the US market in 2008.

Gamesa and Bard sign MoU

Bard has a portfolio of 5,000 MW of offshore wind capacity under different stages of development in Germany and the Netherlands. The agreement envisages a significant investment by Gamesa for a minority stake in Bard and the creation of a joint venture to sell turnkey solutions and provide services in the offshore wind power market.

Gamesa builds new factory in China

The factory, set to begin operating in 2011, will manufacture Gamesa G8X-2.0 MW wind turbines and have a production capacity of 500 MW per year. According to the company, Gamesa’s manufacturing capacity in China, currently at 1,000 MW, will then increase to more than 1,500 MW within one year.

Siemens buys into A2Sea

With this investment, Siemens aims at advancing the industrialization of offshore wind power and the Danish A2Sea obtains the possibility of further expansion. "Together with Siemens, A2Sea can build optimized vessels for the installation of offshore wind turbines", says Wolfgang Dehen, CEO of Siemens Energy.

PowerWind builds wind farm in Azerbaijan

The installation of the turbines of the type PowerWind 56 will probably be finished in October. The wind farm in Sitalcaj, about 40 km from the capital Baku, will be operated by the industrial company Trans T.S. MMC. According to PowerWind, there are already plans to expand the wind farm to eleven turbines.
