Suzlon to open plant in Africa

Silas Zimu, chief executive officer of Suzlon’s South African business, has confirmed to the Bloomberg wire service that the company is currently searching for a suitable location. The plant will manufacture towers and rotor blades for the South African market.

Navarra - The G10X-4.5 MW wind turbine, installed by Gamesa near Alaiz (Navarra, Spain), on 11 March set a new record for energy output by a wind turbine in Spain. The turbine generated electricity for 23.24 equivalent hours yesterday at nominal capacity (98.26% of the day), for a total of 104.6 MWh.


Alstom gets 108 MW order from Brazil

Alstom has been awarded a contract by Odebrecht Energia for the supply of four wind farms in the South of Brazil. The contract was signed in the context of the reserve energy auction, A-3. In a reserve capacity auction the distribution company does not buy the electricity.

Service contract for 310 wind turbines in Spain

A consortium consisting of GE and Spanish energy provider Tamoin Energías Renovables has signed a contract with Iberdrola for the maintenance of wind turbines. The contract covers 310 GE wind turbines erected on Spanish territory. It is the most comprehensive service contract to date in Europe for GE turbines.

Scientists at the Endowed Chair of Wind Energy (Stiftungslehrstuhl Windenergie, SWE) at the University of Stuttgart, together with colleagues at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Boulder, USA, have succeeded in controlling a wind turbine using a LIDAR system installed on the nacelle – for the first time worldwide, the researchers say.

Nordex delivers 21.6 MW to Finland

The wind turbine manufacturer Nordex won the contract for the delivery and construction of the wind farm Honkajoki from the Finnish asset management company Taaleritehdas. The 21.6 MW wind farm includes nine turbines from the series N117/2400, which will be installed on 120 m high towers.
