Sweden: Pioneer of solar district heating
When it comes to district heating, Sweden has made the switch from fossil fuels to biomass and waste heat (see chart). As early as 2015, biomass provided 46 % of the energy in district heating networks across the country, followed by 24 % from waste incineration and 8 % from industrial excess heat. Fossil fuels came only to about 7 % of the around 175 petajoules, or PJ, produced in Sweden in 2015 (latest data available).read more -

Siemens Gamesa to supply 8 MW direct-drive offshore turbine to 500 MW project in France
Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy will supply 62 units of its new 8 MW offshore wind turbine, the SG 8.0-167 DD, to the 500 MW Saint Brieuc project off the coasts of Brittany. The ordered direct drive wind turbine will replace Adwen’s AD 8-180 model after Siemens Gamesa has decided to focus on offshore direct drive platform.read more -

Solar heat in Vietnam, the new workshop of the world
A 5,000 m² flat plate collector field is currently being built at PrimeAsia Leather in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Vietnam. The turnkey supplier of the installation is Danish-based Arcon-Sunmark, which has its own flat plate collector production facilities in this South East Asian country. According to a press release published at the beginning of last November, the solar plant is scheduled to come online in early 2018. The solar heat is said to be used for preparing the animal skins and evaporating the factory’s waste water.read more -

Siemens Gamesa signs contract for onshore wind projects in southern Italy
Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has received orders for two new onshore wind projects in the Basilicata Region in the south of Italy. The company is set to deliver 13 SWT-3.0-113 direct-drive units to European Energy’s 39 MW project in Tolve and 10 G97-2.0 MW turbines to a further 20 MW project near Capoiazzo.read more -

Baltic wind farm "Vikings" feeds into the grid
The offshore wind farm "Vikings" has for the first time fed electricity into the grid. After installation and interim commissioning of the last of 70 Adewen turbines, this is the next important milestone achieved. The wind farm "Vikings" is Iberdrola’s first offshore wind farm in Germany. The company has invested 1.4 billion euros in the project.read more -

First Solar to power 100 MW solar park in Pakistan
First Solar will supply more than 860,000 high-performance thin film modules to power a 100 MW utility-scale photovoltaic solar power plant developed by Zorlu Enerji in Pakistan. It will be the first utility-scale solar project in Pakistan to be powered by First Solar. The Independent Power Producer (IPP) facility, part of the Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park in the country’s Punjab province, is expected to be completed and connected to the electricity grid by the first half of 2018.read more -

Late Monday evening, EU Energy Ministers have adopted their positions on four legislative proposals under the Clean Energy Package, which will guide the EU’s energy transition in the coming decade and beyond.
