First polysilicon production plant in Qatar planned

08.03.2010: The Qatar Foundation, Qatar Development Bank and Solarworld AG have established a joint venture that will build the first production facility for polysilicon on the Arabian Peninsula.

Qatar Solar Technologies will invest a total amount of more than US$ 500 million in the construction of the polysilicon factory. In the first expansion phase, an annual capacity of 3,600 t will be reached. The start of production is scheduled for the third quarter of 2012. According to Solarworld, the location at Ras Laffan Industrial City provides good conditions for realizing forward integration right up to the complete module, although there are no concrete plans for this yet.
