ESolar and Ferrostaal partner to provide turnkey CSP plants

04.03.2010: The US based solar power company eSolar and Ferrostaal AG, a German industrial services provider, join forces to offer turnkey solar power plants based on eSolar’s proprietary tower technology.

They target selling these power plants in countries like Spain, the United Arab Emirates and South Africa. ESolar ist to provide the solar field and the receiver technology. In this technology, the concentrated sunlight is reflected onto the receiver and boils water within the receiver at the top of the tower. ESolar’s first project, the Sierra SunTower, has an electric output of 5 MW and is located in Lancaster, California. “This partnership with Ferrostaal is a real coup for eSolar”, says John Van Scoter, CEO of eSolar.

Ferrostaal is to deliver the power block and to manage the overall realization, including financing, as a general contractor. Ferrostaal takes advantage of its experience gained with power plants based on parabolic trough and Fresnel lens technology and has access to a global infrastructure. By this recent cooperation Ferrostaal adds a third CSP technology to its portfolio.
