Irina Lucke is the first woman to be elected as chair of WAB. The previous chair, Dr Klaus Meier, will be stepping down to the position of deputy chairman. WAB's focus in 2017 will be to provide even more information about political developments to members and promote networking.

At the general meeting of the wind energy association WAB e.V. on 7 December, Irina Lucke, managing director of EWE Offshore Service & Solutions GmbH, officially accepted the position of chairwoman. The offshore expert has been active in the wind energy sector since the beginning, and she has also been a board member and deputy chair at WAB since 2011. This is the first time that a woman has taken on the highest executive position of the industry association. Dr Klaus Meier, managing partner at wpd windmanager GmbH & Co. KG, is stepping down after seven years as chair and switching with Ms Lucke to take on the position of deputy chair.

Lucke, who has extensive expertise in the offshore area, was recently in charge of construction work on the first commercial offshore wind farm in the North Sea, Riffgat, as well as alpha ventus, the first offshore wind farm in Germany.

The year 2017 will be an election year. For this reason, WAB's focus in the coming year will be to inform its members even more comprehensively about political developments in Berlin and to make the connections and contexts in energy policy more transparent. In addition to its well-known offerings WINDFORCE and WINDFORCE Baltic Sea, its working groups, the community booths in London and Husum, and its Legal Offshore Day, WAB is looking to create additional attractive offers in 2017. Events centred around topics such as 'Investment & Finance' and 'Onshore' are being planned.

"Particularly in view of the upcoming state elections and the general election in September, the board of directors has big plans for the coming year. I am very happy about the confidence that my colleagues on the board of directors have shown by allowing me to take this leading position at WAB," Lucke said after the meeting.

After serving on the board of directors for thirteen years, seven of which he spent as chairman, Dr Klaus Meier is now taking on a supporting role. After directing WAB's activities over the last few years with significant energy and personal commitment, he is now turning his attention to new projects.

Approximately 120 WAB members participated in this year's general meeting. After discharge of management and the board for the year 2015, the WAB members proceeded to adopt the plans for the financial year 2017 by majority vote. A get-together after the general meeting provided ample opportunities for extensive networking.
