Globeleq acquires nicaraguan wind project

London - Globeleq Generation Limited (Globeleq), the emerging markets power company, announced the acquisition of the 44 MW Eolo wind project in Nicaragua further establishing the company as the leading renewable energy company in the Central American region.

Cable damage at British offshore wind farms

The operators of the British offshore wind farms Thanet and London Array are currently fighting with damage to their export cables. In both cases, repairs have been entrusted to the cable specialists from Visser & Smit Marine Contracting (VSMC) in the Netherlands.

UL takes over DEWI

Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) has taken over DEWI GmbH, a leading company worldwide in wind energy measurement and testing services, as well as DEWI-OCC, a certifier of wind turbines. The measurement, testing and certification services of DEWI and DEWI-OCC will complement the services offered by UL in the certification of wind energy installation safety.

Swedish Energy Agency invests in carbon credits from SoWiTec´s Uruguayan wind farm Minas I.

Stockholm - The Swedish Energy Agency and SoWiTec have signed an agreement on 600,000 CERs generated by the wind farm Minas I, located outside the town of Minas in southeastern Uruguay.

New wind farm in Lower Austria

Stephan Pernkopf, Lower Austria's Secretary of the Environment, Agriculture, and Energy, officially opened the Dürnkrut-Götzendorf wind farm in Lower Austria. Ten Vestas V90 turbines, each with a hub height of 105 m, rotor diameter of 90 m and a nominal capacity of 2.0 MW comprise the wind farm.

Siemens is eliminating hundreds of positions in the USA and will drop 615 employees from the payroll, according to an announcement sent to the company’s staff. Siemens attributed the cuts to a lack of orders in the wind power segment.
